ss Mohamed Ali El-Kebir

Roll of Honour

The following roll of those who died as a result of the loss of the s.s. Mohamed Ali el–Kebir has been compiled from the Registers of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC). It must be regarded as provisional since no full list of casualties appears to be available from official sources. The CWGC website is a useful source of further information.

In order that a start could be made on recording all those lost, a search of the CWGC database has been carried out, and men who belonged to any of the units known to be on board and with dates of death of 7th/8th August 1940, have been included. Only 28 of these are definitely ascribed to the Mohamed by CWGC. For the rest readers should be aware that an element of assumption has been made. In addition it is known that at least one casualty was rescued and died later, there may be others.
